When is Meta Quest 3 coming out? Release date and rumours explained

THE Meta Quest 2 is approaching three years old, and the VR headset is in need of an upgrade.

Previously known as the Oculus Quest before Facebook’s company name change, Meta Quest headsets are known as some of the best on the market.

It is one of the only wireless VR headsets, and has one of the best screen resolutions for an immersive experience.

Here’s what we know about the next headset in the series, the Meta Quest 3.

Is Meta Quest 3 coming out? 

The Meta Quest 2 launched less than a month after its official announcement, and something similar could happen with the Meta Quest 3.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that the company is working on its next VR headset.

He also confirmed that it would launch in 2023, which confirmed previous rumours about its launch date.

We expect the Meta Quest 3 will launch in time for holiday buyers, and will likely be released around September or October.

How much will be the Meta Quest 3? 

The Meta Quest 2 saw a price rise during its life cycle, and the cheapest one is now £399 ($399).

Meta’s next headset is unlikely to fall below this price, though rumours suggest it won’t cost too much more.

An internal leak from Meta suggested the price will be more than $400 (£400).

The most recent VR headset release was the PS VR2 for £530 ($550), and we predict it will not be above this price.

What to expect from Meta Quest 3?

The internal leak from Meta suggested that the Meta Quest 3 will have more power, and a slimmer design.

It is believed that the resolution will be increased to 2,064 x 2,208 per eye, to put it in line with the best VR headsets currently available.

We also expect there to be an upgrade in RAM, and there could be a 512GB model available.

Nothing has been officially announced, but it appears that the Meta Quest 3 will be an overall upgrade on the specs of the Meta Quest 2.
